Other Nearby Roads Also Affected; Motorists will be Detoured and Advised to Allow Extra Commuting Time
(July 1, 2019) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is detouring motorists around a roadway washout that occurred late-Saturday/early-Sunday in Table Rock. The closure on US 50 (George Washington Highway) between Mason School Road and Table Rock Road and detour is expected to remain in place until mid-late July.
A thunderstorm associated with a cold front produced nearly six inches of rain in a short time, causing a culvert to become compromised. The road subsequently received major damage and was closed.
Motorists will be guided around the nearly 20-mile detour using MD 560 (Gorman Road), MD 135 (Maryland Highway) and US 219 (Garrett Highway). Approximately 1,225 motorists per day travel on this section of US 50.
Click here for a map of the detour route. Crews will also repair the shoulder on US 219 near the Cash Valley Road intersection.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
