(April 18, 2019) – On Monday, April 22, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is temporarily closing and detouring the Maple Street (MD 742) Bridge over the Youghiogheny River in Friendsville for six weeks. The closure is necessary to protect work crews and motorists and expedite the $500,000 project.
Motorists will be guided to MD 42 (Friendsville Road) to First Avenue and back to Maple Street. MDOT SHA’s contractor, Concrete General, Inc. of Rockville, will be performing general concrete repairs to add years of service life to the bridge.
Crews will use construction barrels and detour signs to guide travelers through the work zone. Approximately 1,000 vehicles use this section of Maple Street each day.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our contractor. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on the road and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
