Motorists Can Expect Single and Double Lane Closures

(April 9, 2019) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is beginning a road improvement project on I-70 between MD 17 (Myersville Road) and Ridge Road in Frederick County. The $300,000 project will be complete by Memorial Day, weather permitting.

Crews will patch deteriorated sections of pavement on nearly eight miles of I-70, which will improve the safety and enhance the ride quality for thousands of drivers who travel on I-70 each day.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, Slurry Pavers, Inc. of Richmond, VA, will begin the project on eastbound I-70 and are permitted to close one or two lanes during work. Motorists can expect lane closures on eastbound I-70 between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. and on westbound I-70 between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. every day except on Fridays and Saturdays. Approximately 70,000 motorists travel on this section of I-70 each day, but traffic volumes drop off in the evening and overnight hours.

While MDOT SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Drive like you work here and slow down and pay close attention while in work zones. For a list of all major MDOT SHA projects, click on Road Ready, MDOT SHA's electronic construction brochure.
