Motorists Can Expect Nighttime Double Lane Closures

(September 28, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is starting a project to significantly improve the ride quality on the northbound I-95 Bridge over the Patapsco River at the Baltimore/Howard County line. The $505,000 project is starting tonight and will be complete mid-fall.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, PDI Sheetz of Linthicum Heights, will patch damaged sections of the concrete bridge deck (driving surface), repair aging bridge joints and apply a concrete overlay on all lanes. Motorists should expect double lane closures between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday nights through Friday mornings.

Crews will use arrow boards and barrels to guide the nearly 177,000 vehicles that drive this section of I-95 each day through the work zone. While traffic volumes drop considerable at night, motorists may want to consider using US 1 (Washington Boulevard), MD 295 (Baltimore-Washington Parkway) or US 29 (Columbia Pike) as potential alternate routes.

Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting www.md511.org for live traffic updates.
