Part of Saathoff Road Also Temporarily Closed; Dualization Project Remains on Schedule Opening by Thanksgiving

 

(September 1, 2017) – The MD 404 (Queen Anne Highway/Shore Highway) dualization project remains on schedule. Last Friday the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) completed a major traffic shift in the eastern segment. All eastbound and westbound traffic is traveling on the new westbound roadway pavement between Holly Road and MD 480 (Ridgely Road), and work is underway to rehabilitate the old roadway and convert it to the new two-lane eastbound side of MD 404.

 

To ensure motorist safety, MDOT SHA closed two intersections in conjunction with the traffic shift – MD 404 at Thawley Road and MD 404 at the eastern leg of Saathoff Road. These closures are necessary due to limited visibility at the intersections and will remain in place until all lanes of the dual highway are completed. The western leg of Saathoff Road remains open at MD 404.

 

MDOT SHA is on schedule with the $160 million project to dualize MD 404 between US 50 and Denton. Motorists will have full use of all lanes by Thanksgiving.

More than 16 percent of the 18,000 vehicles traveling MD 404 each day are commercial trucks. Traffic volumes are significantly higher in the summer as many Washington and Baltimore-area residents use MD 404 to access Atlantic beaches. SHA awarded the MD 404 design-build contract to 404 Corridor Safety Constructors, a joint venture among David A. Bramble (Chestertown), Allan Myers (Fallston) and Wagman Heavy Civil (York, PA).
