Motorists Should Expect Nighttime Double Lane Closures; Plan Accordingly

(August 30, 2017) – Beginning after Labor Day, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will resurface westbound I-70 between the Carroll County Line and MD 75 (Green Valley Road) in New Market. The $3.2 million project will be complete late-fall.

Crews will patch, grind (remove the top layer of asphalt), pave and stripe more than five miles of I-70. Other work on the project includes repairing/replacing guardrail and highway drainage improvements. Once complete, more than 64,000 drivers will enjoy a smoother safer ride.

MDOT SHA’s contractor, Pleasants Construction of Clarksburg, is permitted to close two lanes Sundays through Friday mornings between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. MDOT SHA will use barrels, dynamic message signs and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone.

The e-Road Ready 2017 electronic construction brochure is now available by clicking here. The e-brochure highlights major road construction and maintenance projects in each of MDOT SHA’s seven engineering districts which cover Maryland.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver need to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
