Motorists Should Slow Down and Allow Extra Time During Flagging on Two-Lane MD 30

 

Annapolis, MD – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is beginning a $25.6 million reconstruction project on MD 30 Business (Main Street) in the heart of Hampstead in Carroll County. The 1.6-mile project will reduce congestion, improve mobility, and enhance safety for drivers and pedestrians throughout the corridor between North Woods Trail and the CSX Railroad Crossing.

“The Hogan administration is committed to tackling long-neglected projects across the state, and we greatly appreciate the town’s assistance in mapping a construction plan that allows for safe work zones and maintains access to businesses,” said MDOT SHA Administrator Gregory Slater. “We thank the community in advance for their patience as we begin the reconstruction project. Please remember to slow down and stay alert within the work zone.”

Maryland-based C.J. Miller, Inc. of Hampstead won the construction contract to upgrade to Americans with Disabilities Act compliant sidewalks; replace curbs and gutters; relocate utilities; upgrade traffic signals, signs and pavement markings; and repave and landscape the corridor. These improvements will benefit nearly 16,000 motorists who travel along this section of MD 30 each day. MDOT SHA’s scheduled completion for the project is late 2019.

SHA’s contractor will construct the improvements in phases to maintain local access during construction, as well as work concurrently with the BGE contractor moving utility lines. Crews will alternate traffic using a flagging operation to minimize disruption and maximize access to businesses for the project’s duration. Construction crews will work on site Monday through Saturday between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. If needed, crews may complete final paving early spring during warmer temperatures.
