Motorist should Expect Major Delays; Use Parallel Alternate Routes Including US 1, US 29 and MD 295
(May 2, 2016) – Beginning 10 p.m. Friday, May 6, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will repair a collapsed drainage pipe under
northbound I-95 near MD 100 in Howard County. SHA expects to complete the repair by noon on Sunday, May 8, weather permitting.
Crews will close two northbound right lanes and the right shoulder to remove the existing pavement, repair the pipe and install new asphalt.
“Drivers should remain alert since only orange and white construction barrels will separate high speed traffic and crews,” said District Engineer Mark Crampton. “The best idea is to use alternate routes to avoid the likely traffic delays. If you must drive in this area, allow for extra travel time.”
Motorists should consider US 1 (Washington Boulevard), MD 295 (Baltimore Washington Parkway) or US 29 (Columbia Pike) as alternate routes. The Baltimore Orioles also have scheduled home games on Saturday night, May 7 at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday afternoon, May 8 at 1:35 p.m. Attendees should plan for additional travel time as the roadwork is likely to result in delays on I-95.
SHA awarded the $140,000 contract to Brawner Builders, Inc. of Hunt Valley. While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
A complete listing of current roadway projects is included in
e-Road Ready 2016, the online brochure. Maryland drivers can also know before they go by calling 511 or visiting
