Crews to Repair Deteriorated Pavement along I-270 and Shady Grove Road Exits Starting Tonight at 9 P.M.

(October 16, 2015) - The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will close two ramps along I-370 in Gaithersburg this weekend for pavement repairs.  Ramp closures are scheduled between Friday, October 16 at 9 p.m. and midday Sunday, October 18. Drivers will be directed to use the signed detour routes and plan for additional travel time this weekend.

The following ramps closure will allow crews to repair deteriorated sections of the ramps, concrete to set and cure and then open the ramp to traffic:

• Westbound I- 370 to southbound I-270 for Washington: Five concrete patches will be repaired during this closure. Drivers will be directed to use Sam Eig Highway, turn left at MD 119 (Great Seneca Highway), turn left at MD 28 (Key West Avenue), turn left at Shady Grove Road, then merge onto southbound I-270.

• Eastbound I-370 to Shady Grove Road for southbound MD 355 for Rockville: Four concrete patches will be repaired on this ramp. Drivers will be directed to the southbound I-270 exit. They may then use Exit 8 (Shady Grove Road).

Customers may contact the SHA District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737 during business hours. Portable variable message and temporary traffic signs alert drivers of the upcoming closure.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to further help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes, and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
