(January 27, 2014) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) is hosting an informational public meeting Wednesday, January 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Chesapeake Heritage and Visitor Center, 425 Piney Narrows Road, in Chester on Kent Island.

 

Design and construction engineers will update residents and business owners about upcoming improvements to East Main Street and Love Point Road (MD 18) in Stevensville. SHA will display illustrations of the proposed project. While viewing project displays, attendees will be able to meet the project team, provide comments and ask questions.

 

This spring, the nearly $645,000 project will start along a one-quarter mile section of roadway that includes MD 835C (Love Point Road) from east of Cockey Lane to Main Street (MD 18) and a connecting portion of East Main Street. Improvements include new concrete and brick sidewalks, curb and gutter, resurfacing, replacing an open ditch with an underground storm drain and pipe culverts, and new on-street parking.

 

Construction is expected to be complete by mid-summer, weather permitting. SHA awarded the contract to David A. Bramble, Inc., of Chestertown. When complete, East Main Street will be converted to one-way movement for motorists, with traffic directed into Stevensville. The other lane will be converted to on-street parking.

 

During construction, local traffic and residents will be able to access their driveways. Through traffic on East Main Street will be detoured in both directions from MD 18 to Old Love Point Road. Traffic will be maintained on Love Point Road during construction, with temporary lane closures, as needed.

Note: If Queen Anne’s County Public Schools are closed or if the county’s snow emergency plan is in effect, the meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 5 from 6 to 8 p.m.
