State Highway Administration Reopens Entire MD 140 / Sullivan Road Intersection in Carroll County
(December 13, 2013) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will reopen the entire MD 140/Sullivan Road intersection in Carroll County this afternoon following the installation of a new traffic signal to replace one that was struck last week. The new signal will be activated later this evening.
Left turns and crossover traffic had been prohibited at the intersection since December when a traffic signal pole was removed due to damage from a vehicle collision earlier in the week.
“We appreciate the patience of the local community, business owners and motorists that travel through this intersection while SHA completed this repair,” SHA District Engineer Dave Coyne said.
The new traffic signal being installed today has a span wire design with wooden poles on either side of MD 140. This design was used to expedite reopening of the intersection and will be replaced with a more permanent mast-arm design at a later date.
