(August 20, 2013) – Due to paving, overnight closures are scheduled starting Tuesday night, August 20, weather permitting, for the exit 53B ramp from westbound I-70 to northbound US 15/westbound US 40 in Frederick. The ramp will be closed and a detour will be in place between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. for one to two nights. In the event of rain, the closure will be postponed and portable message signs will be updated with the new start date for the closures.

The detour will direct traffic wishing to access northbound US 15/westbound US 40 as follows:

• Take exit 54 to MD 85 and keep left at the fork onto southbound MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike)
• Proceed 1.3 miles on southbound MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike)
• Take the ramp to northbound I-270 to US 15

The ramp resurfacing is part of an ongoing $1.9 million Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) resurfacing project for I-70 between US 15 and New Design Road.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
