(June 14, 2013) – The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) advises motorists to expect changing traffic patterns starting Monday on eastbound US 340 just east of the Potomac River Bridge in Washington County.

Due to construction at the intersection of US 340 and Keep Tryst Road, crews will close one lane of eastbound US 340 in the area of the construction for about six to eight weeks. Motorists should be prepared for possible delays during peak travel times.

The lane reduction is necessary for safety reasons while crews work to modify the intersection of US 340 with the east end of Keep Tryst Road to allow left turns from westbound US 340 onto Keep Tryst Road.

While SHA and its partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone!
