(March 25, 2013) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) is performing routine maintenance on the MD 213 Chester River Drawbridge on Friday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The brief closures of the bridge will last no longer than needed for an average vessel to pass through open the swing span.

SHA’s contractor, Covington Machine and Welding, Inc. of Annapolis, will perform the inspection and work.  The routine maintenance includes: greasing the bridge locks; testing for opening and closing the bridge draw and raising and lowering the traffic gates; checking all traffic and navigational lights; and checking all hydraulic oil levels for bridge motors.

If inclement weather prevents the maintenance work as originally scheduled, it will be conducted the next business day.  Anyone with questions about the project may contact the SHA District 2 Office at 1-800-637-9740.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.  Slow down and don’t follow too closely.  Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone!
