(May 10, 2012) – The State Highway Administration (SHA) will conduct full weekend 24-hour single-lane closures on southbound US 1(Conowingo Road) over the Conowingo Dam Bridge between Friday at 6 p.m. through Monday at 6 a.m. for two consecutive weekends on May 11-14 and May 18-21.

The single-lane closures are necessary to allow crews to resurface both southbound lanes on the bridge deck (riding surface) over the Susquehanna River.  Weather permitting, work will be completed prior to the Memorial Day weekend.

Similar work on the northbound lanes of the US 1 Conowingo Dam Bridge will be conducted in June and completed by June 30. The $1.2 million patching and resurfacing project was awarded to PDI Sheetz of Linthicum Heights.

SHA will use flagging operations, portable dynamic message signs (DMS) and cones to guide motorists through the work zone.  Drivers need to plan ahead for extra travel time and stay alert for this temporary change in traffic patterns. When approaching the lane closures on the Conowingo Dam Bridge slow down and look ahead for slow or stopped vehicles. Safer driving. Safer work zones. For everyone.
