(September 10, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has closed US 29 (Colesville Road) in both directions between MD 193 (University Boulevard) and MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue) due to flooding in Montgomery County.

The road will remain closed until waters of the Northwest Branch Creek recede to allow for cleanup and further inspection. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and plan alternate routes.

Detours are in effect: Southbound traffic uses MD 650 south to I-495 west to MD 193 west before returning to US 29 south. Northbound traffic uses MD 193 east to I-495 east to MD 650 north before returning to US 29 north.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
