(December 4, 2012) – Tomorrow night and each night through Friday, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close the three right lanes of southbound I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) at MD 201 (Kenilworth Avenue) to remove construction equipment from the ongoing bridge project in Greenbelt.

Weather permitting, the work will begin at 9 p.m. each night and all lanes will be open to traffic by 5 a.m. the next morning. SHA will close one right lane on southbound I-95/I-495 at 9 p.m., two right lanes at 10 p.m. and three right lanes at midnight.

The work is part of the $5.6 million I-95/MD 201 deck replacement project. Weather permitting, the overall project will be complete by early 2013.

SHA is using electronic message boards, construction cones, barrels and arrow boards to direct motorists through the work zone. As crews work to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For Everyone!
