SHA Will Shift Traffic on MD 109 Bridge in Hyattstown; Motorists Should Expect Delays

(November 3, 2009) – Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 4, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will shift traffic on the MD 109 Bridge over Little Bennett Creek to the newly re-decked westbound side.

Beginning at 9 a.m., Wednesday, November 4 crews will shift traffic from the eastbound side of the bridge to the westbound side.  This work should be complete before the afternoon rush hour.  Once traffic is shifted, crews can begin phase two of the bridge rehabilitation project.  SHA will use police, flaggers, variable message signs, barrels and cones to guide motorists through the work zone during the traffic shift.

To avoid delays during the traffic switch, motorists can use MD 355 (Frederick Road).  The bridge project is expected to be complete this winter, weather permitting.  SHA’s contractor for the project is Fort Meyer Construction Corporation.

Customers who have questions about MD 109 or any other State numbered roadway in Montgomery County should call SHA’s District 3 office at 1-800-749-0737.  SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly and “Think Orange” while driving through work zones by driving the speed limit and remaining alert at all times.
