Daytime Detours will be in Place from August 5-8 and from August 12-15
(August 1, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin a drainage and resurfacing project on MD 495 (Bittinger Road) between Durst Road and US 40 Alternate in Grantsville starting August 5. All work should be complete by mid-August, weather permitting.
The project will require the temporary closure and detour of MD 495 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, August 5 to Thursday, August 8, weather permitting. The state’s contractor also plans to close MD 495 daily from Monday, August 12, to Thursday, August 15 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The closure will follow the same detour with the road being open to traffic. Closures are necessary to replace deep pipe crossings and drainage structures.
The detour is as follows:
- Southbound MD 495 Detour – Eastbound I-68 to Exit 22 (Chestnut Ridge Road), right onto Chestnut Ridge Road for 2.5 miles to New Germany Road, left onto New Germany for 10 miles back to MD 495.
- Northbound MD 495 Detour – Right onto New Germany Road for 10 miles to Chestnut Ridge Road, right onto Chestnut Ridge Road for 2.5 miles to westbound I-68 and back MD 495 exit 19 Grantsville.
The State Highway Administration’s contractor First Fruits Excavation of Ridgeley, W.Va., will use electronic message boards, detour signs, barrels, and cones to guide motorists safely through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration appreciates motorists’ patience as we complete this necessary inspection and maintenance work. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve our roadways.
