​Pedestrian Safety and Improved Ride Quality Coming to Glenarden 

(October 12, 2023) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has started a project to improve safety and mobility along MD 704 (Martin Luther King Jr. Highway) between Greenleaf Road and Ardwick Ardmore Road in Glenarden, Prince George’s County. The project is expected to be complete in fall 2024, weather permitting.

Motorists can expect shoulder and single-lane closures in both directions on MD 704 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays. Additionally, there may be temporary detours on the MD 202 (Largo Road) ramps to and from MD 704 during the work periods. Work may require closures during off-peak nights and weekends, as necessary.

The $5.5 million project is the fourth and final project in a series of initiatives focused on safety improvements along the MD 704 corridor. These improvements include milling (removing the top layer of asphalt), paving, line striping, installing high-visibility crosswalks and upgrading existing sidewalk ramps and driveways to achieve Americans with Disability Act compliance.

State Highway Administration contractor Pessoa Construction Company Inc., of Fairmont Heights, will use temporary traffic signs, reflective cones and flaggers to guide roadway users through the work zone. The department is aware that lane closures and detours are inconvenient but are necessary to maintain a world-class transportation system. All motorists should stay alert and be patient as you pass through the work zone.
