Overnight, Daytime Temporary Lane and Ramp Closures Scheduled for July 9-14
(July 7, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has scheduled temporary ramp and lane closures within the I-95/I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) interchange in southwestern Baltimore County between Sunday night, July 9, and Friday afternoon, July 14. The ramp and lane closures are required as part of the ongoing rehabilitation project for 10 bridges within the interchange. Beginning Sunday, motorists can expect the following:
Overnight Lane Closures
- Northbound I-95 at I-695: Overnight single-lane closures at 7 p.m., followed by double left-lane closures between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day, Sunday, July 9, through Thursday, July 13.
- Southbound I-95 at I-695: Overnight single-lane closures at 7 p.m., followed by double left-lane closures between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day, Sunday, July 9, through Thursday, July 13. Note: Overnight Tuesday, July 11, into Wednesday morning, July 12, there will be a triple left-lane closure on southbound I-95 between midnight and 5 a.m. to move construction work zone barriers and set a new traffic pattern on the southbound lanes.
Overnight Ramp Closures
- Ramp from southbound I-95 to eastbound I-695 (outer loop): Overnight ramp closure and detour 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day, Sunday, July 9, through Thursday, July 13. The detour will guide motorists to exit onto Caton Avenue, proceed on southbound Caton Avenue, stay right to southbound US 1 Alt (Washington Boulevard), then take eastbound I-695 (outer loop).
- Ramp from eastbound I-695 (outer loop) to northbound I-95: Overnight ramp closure and detour each night, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day, Sunday, July 9, through Thursday, July 13. The detour will guide motorists eastbound past I-95 to the Hollins Ferry Road interchange, through the interchange to westbound I-695 (inner loop) and back to northbound I-95.
Daytime Lane Closures
- Sulphur Spring Road under I-95: Daytime lane shifts and/or lane closures with flagging operations to control two-way traffic between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, July 10, through Friday, July 14.
All work schedules are pending weather and other construction factors. Contractor Wagman Heavy Civil Inc. will perform the work and will use digital message boards, temporary signs and barrels to safely guide drivers through the area. Learn more about the multi-bridge project here.
The State Highway Administration understands temporary and ramp closures can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to maintain and improve the transportation system for all. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
