Northbound Closure, Detour Required to Adjust Bridge Monitoring Equipment; Southbound Traffic Unaffected
(May 23, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will close the northbound lanes only on the US 301 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) bridge over Chester River at the Queen Anne’s/Kent County line near Millington between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. this Thursday, May 25. This temporary closure is needed to maintain worker safety as crews adjust recently installed bridge monitoring equipment.
Drivers will encounter a complete closure and detour of northbound US 301 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. All northbound traffic will exit at MD 544 and follow a posted detour on MD 544 east to MD 313 north, then to MD 291 west and back to US 301 north. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, and allow a few extra minutes on the detour through Millington.

Southbound US 301 traffic will not be impacted by the work.
The State Highway Administration understands lane closures and detours are an inconvenience, but this work is needed to maintain a safe and reliable transportation system. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
