I-270 sign
(June 5, 2020) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will resurface 4.6 miles of southbound I-270 (Eisenhower Highway) between MD 189 (Falls Road) and Democracy Boulevard in Montgomery County beginning Sunday night, June 7 (weather permitting). The resurfacing project should be complete by late summer.
The work is part of MDOT SHA’s $100 million Innovative Congestion Management (ICM) project which breaks 14 bottlenecks and adds 12 new lane miles and more than 30 intelligent signals that work together to deliver dynamic traffic management along the entire I-270 corridor.
Crews will mill, pave and restripe the roadway. During this phase of resurfacing, crews are permitted to close up to four of six southbound lanes on I-270 between Falls Road and Democracy Boulevard, overnight, Sunday through Thursday, between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Two southbound travel lanes will remain open at all times during this work Additional work times are possible to expedite all phases of work and keep the project on schedule. Drivers should plan ahead and extra commute time.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
