New Traffic Pattern at New Windsor Road Intersection Will Improve Safety

(June 2, 2008) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) early this summer will change the traffic pattern along MD 31 (New Windsor Road) at Tahoma Farm Road in Carroll County. This new traffic pattern will enhance safety and traffic operations at the intersection.

On Thursday, June 5th, SHA will close the connection to MD 852 (Old New Windsor Road) from MD 31 at Tahoma Farm Road. Motorists who need to access MD 852 may use Uniontown Road for eastbound travel or Stone Chapel Road for westbound travel. Variable message signs will be placed in advance of the intersection to alert motorists of the new traffic pattern.

In July, SHA will begin installing a traffic signal along MD 31 at Tahoma Farm Road and add a left turn lane along eastbound MD 31 to Tahoma Farm Road. The traffic signal is expected to be complete this fall and will be placed on “flash mode” for three days prior to activation to familiarize motorists with the new traffic signal. Variable message signs will also be placed at all approaches to the intersection to alert motorists of the new traffic signal.

SHA encourages motorists to stay alert for new traffic patterns along MD 31. Citizens who have questions about traffic operations on MD 31 or other State numbered routes in Carroll County, may call SHA’s District 7 Office toll free at 1-800-635-5119.
