Bridge Closing to All Traffic on or about Monday, June 23; Bridge to Remain Closed through Late November 2008

(June 13, 2008) -- The Maryland State Highway Administration will begin a project to replace the bridge carrying MD 159 (Old Philadelphia Road) over Cranberry Run. The $1.2 million project will require a long-term temporary closure of the bridge beginning on or about Monday, June 23 at 9 a.m. and ending in late November, weather permitting.

The bridge, constructed in 1925, is nearing the end of its useful life and will be replaced with a new two-lane bridge with four-foot shoulders. Once the bridge is closed to traffic, motorists will be directed to a posted detour route using US 40 (Pulaski Highway) and MD 715 (Short Lane). After the bridge re-opens in late fall, daytime lane closures with flagging operations may take place along MD 159 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday – Friday. The bridge project is slated for completion in early winter 2009.

SHA and the contractor, the Six-M Company of Delta, PA, appreciate the community’s understanding and patience during the construction process, and remind all travelers to plan head for extra travel time, temporary traffic detour signs, and construction personnel and equipment throughout the work zone. Citizens with questions during construction may call the local project field office at 410-272-1095, SHA’s District 4 Construction Section at 1-800-962-3077, or by e-mail at SHADistrict4@sha.state.md.us.
