(March 5, 2015) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) continues winter storm operations statewide as another winter storm makes its slow exit from the region. More than 2,500 State and contract trucks continue to plow and salt State-maintained routes.
“As temperatures drop later tonight even treated roads may be icy and slippery, so travelers should remain alert and reduce speeds,” said SHA Administrator Melinda B. Peters. “Crews will continue to plow and treat roadways; however the best advice is to get to your destination and stay.”
Thursday morning brought substantial amounts of rain, followed by heavy snowfall throughout the day. Emergency traffic patrols continue to monitor Maryland interstates during the evening rush hours. SHA crews will also work overnight to address merge area and transition lanes at interchanges, road shoulders and intersections.
“Motorists must modify driving behavior for conditions. Drivers should slow down, use caution, allow extra distance between vehicles, use snow tires and allow plenty of time for travel,” added Peters. “We also encourage people to plan for Friday morning’s commute since roads could be icy in the morning.”
