(February 14, 2015) – Tonight, the Maryland State Highway Administration continues storm operations through Saturday evening, applying salt and other chemicals to State-numbered routes. The winter storm brought wet snow and limited visibility for drivers in parts of western and central Maryland.

Statewide, nearly 1,000 trucks supported by emergency operations personnel responded to the storm.  Expect below freezing temperatures overnight; drivers should reduce speeds, especially along ramps, bridges and overpasses.

The National Weather Service issued a travel advisory for the area.  Air and pavement temperatures are expected to drop, and crews will continue to address areas where drifting snow is likely to occur.  Forecasters predict high winds reaching nearly 50 mph overnight, bringing the possibility of  downed power lines and fallen trees.

When approaching signals without power, drivers should treat the intersection as a four-way stop.  Truck drivers may use one of the SHA park and ride facilities across Maryland. Click here for a list of selected park and rides that are available.
