(January 4, 2012) – Beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, January 6, the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close the ramp from eastbound I-70 to South Street to excavate an underground pipe. Work is expected to be completed by Sunday evening, January 8. The rain/snow date for the project is the weekend of January 13.
SHA will direct motorists to the eastbound I-70 to MD 144/Patrick Street (exit #56) while the ramp is closed. Motorists may also consider using exit #54 (MD 355/Urbana Pike) to access the City of Frederick.
Additionally, next weekend beginning January 13, SHA will temporarily close the South Street ramp to eastbound I-70 for pipe excavation. The rain/snow date for this project will be the following weekend.
Known as “I-70 Phase 2D,” the $40 million construction project includes replacing the bridges over South Street and widening a portion of I-70 to three through lanes. Weather permitting, the project should be complete summer 2013.
Citizens who have questions about I-70 or any other State numbered roadway in Frederick County may call SHA’s District 7 Office at 301-624-8100 or toll free at 1-800-635-5119.
