Motorists Can Expect Weeknight Lane Closures through June 2024

(May 9, 2024) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin resurfacing MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue) between Milestone Drive and Shaw Avenue in Silver Spring on Sunday, May 12. The project should be completed by late June, weather permitting.

Crews will begin by milling (removing the top layer of asphalt) and paving on MD 650 northbound, then move to southbound. Each direction will take approximately two weeks to complete.

Crews will work weeknights, Sundays through Thursdays, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., with single- and double-lane closures in effect. Additional lane closures may be necessary to expedite the work. Electronic message boards will be placed in advance to notify drivers of upcoming road work. Once complete, motorists will notice a smoother driving experience on MD 650.

Contractor E&R Services, Inc., of Lanham, will perform the work. More information on the project is available HERE. Customers who have questions may contact the SHA District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737.

The State Highway Administration appreciates motorists’ patience as we complete this necessary inspection and maintenance work. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve our roadways.
