(October 15, 2010) – This weekend, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will start closing up to three lanes overnights as part of the rehabilitation project on the Forestville Road Bridge over I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Forestville, Prince George’s County.
The bridge demolition will begin Sunday night, October 17 and should last through the end of the month, weather permitting. The lane closures are necessary to provide a safety zone for workers and motorists as crews demolish the first section of the Forestville Road Bridge deck.
Motorists may experience delays on I-95/I-495 near Forestville Road during construction. Overnight single lane closures will occur Sunday through Thursday between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Double lane closures between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., with possible triple lane closures allowed between midnight and SHA Closes Lanes o I-95/I-495 Overnight for Bridge Demolition in Prince George's County5 a.m.
SHA will use variable message signs, jersey barrier wall, drums, and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone. The Forestville Road Bridge rehabilitation project should be complete fall 2011, weather permitting.
