Overnight Lane Closures Scheduled to Begin Sunday Night

(October 2, 2025) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will improve the pavement line striping along segments of I-97 (Arundel Expressway) and I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) in Anne Arundel County starting Sunday night, October 5. The pavement marking improvement project should be complete by late-fall 2025, weather permitting.

Crews will install contrast skip and roadway edge markings at the following locations:

  • Northbound and southbound I-97 at five bridge locations: I-97 bridges over Furnace Road, MD 648 (Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard), MD 176 (Dorsey Road), MD 3 (Crain Highway) and the bridge over Severn Run;
  • Northbound and southbound I-97 between Exit 16 (MD 176 - Dorsey Road) and Exit 12 (MD 3 Business - Crain Highway / New Cut Road);
  • Westbound (outer loop) I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) between the Exit 4 Spur/ramp to northbound I-97.

Drivers can expect overnight lane or ramp closures, Sunday through Thursday nights, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

This system preservation project will enhance lane marking visibility along one of Maryland’s major routes. State highway contractor Denville Line Painting of New Jersey will direct traffic using barrels, temporary traffic signs and portable variable message signs through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as customers. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused and be aware of reduced speed limits and changing driving patterns. Slow down and move over in work zones. It’s the law. Customers may contact the SHA District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or 1-800-331-5603 for additional information.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
