Phase 1 Improvements Planned Between I-95/I-495 and Henson Creek Trail

(October 2, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will host a public open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025, to provide updates on Phase 1 of the MD 210 (Indian Head Highway) Pedestrian and Bicycle Connectivity Project. The open house will take place in the cafeteria at Oxon Hill High School, 6701 Leyte Drive, Oxon Hill, Prince George’s County.

The MD 210 Pedestrian and Bicycle Connectivity Project is a multi-phase initiative to enhance safety, connectivity and accessibility along the MD 210 corridor for pedestrians and bicyclists. The project builds upon recommendations from the 2022 MD 210 Pedestrian and Bicycle Study, which identified opportunities to improve walking and biking facilities between I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) and the southern crossing of MD 210 at Old Fort Road.

Improvements in Phase 1 focus on the segment between the Beltway and the Henson Creek Trail and include a shared-use path, striping and pavement markings on select local and service roads and installation of new and upgraded sidewalks at certain intersections.

At the open house, State Highway Administration staff will be available to answer questions, share project maps and displays and receive public comments. There will be no formal presentation. Attendees may arrive at any time during the event.

Those requiring assistance to participate in the open house, including those requesting language interpretation or accommodations for hearing/speech difficulties, may email [email protected] in advance of the event. Please indicate the desired language in the subject line. Maryland Relay Service can assist teletype users at 7-1-1.

The MD 210 Pedestrian and Bicycle Connectivity Project supports Maryland’s Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries on state roadways by 2030, aligning with the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Complete Streets policy, which prioritizes safe, reliable, equitable and sustainable transportation for all users. This project aligns with the MDOT’s Serious About Safety initiative, a department-wide commitment to advance improvements that promote safety and save lives.
