Motorists Can Expect Daytime and Overnight Lane Closures with Flagging Operations through early November

(September 29, 2025) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin cleaning and painting the US 40 (Pulaski Highway) bridge over Otter Point Creek near MD 24 (Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway) in Harford County as soon as Thursday, October 2. The bridge work will be complete early November, weather permitting.

Motorists can expect single-lane closures with flagging operations on eastbound and westbound US 40 in the vicinity of the bridge weekdays, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., with overnight hours, Sunday through Thursday 9 p.m. - 5 a.m.

Automated Speed Enforcement will be in effect at the bridge work zone.  The State Highway Administration urges drivers to plan ahead for additional travel time on US 40, observe the speed limit of 45 mph and drive with caution within the work zone as the roadway shoulders will be closed 24 hours a day.

The $394,000 work on the US 40 bridge is part of the State Highway Administration’s $2.8 million contract for cleaning and painting bridges on state highways within Baltimore and Harford Counties. Contractor Reglas Painting Co. of Dundalk will perform the work.

The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety and asks drivers to slow down and move over, if possible, in work zones and pay extra attention to pedestrians and bicyclists. Keeping drivers, their passengers and vulnerable highway users safe is our top priority.
