24-Hour Left-Lane Closures on Northbound US 1 Bypass Will Remain in Effect; Weekday Left-Lane Closures on Southbound US 1 Bypass to Begin Wednesday
(August 11, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration and the Maryland Environmental Service will begin repairs as soon as Wednesday morning to the median and left lane along northbound US 1 (Bel Air Bypass) north of the US 1 Bypass / MD 147 (Harford Road) / US 1 Business intersection in Harford County. The repair is expected to be completed in early September, weather permitting.
The 24-hour lane closures on northbound US 1 Bypass will remain in effect during the repair work. There also will be temporary left lane closures on southbound US 1 Bypass. Crews will work Mondays through Fridays, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. until the repair is completed. The State Highway Administration encourages travelers on US 1 Bypass to plan for extra travel time during the next few weeks and consider alternate routes.
On July 18, following a series of heavy rainstorms, State Highway Administration engineers determined that a 40-foot segment of 48-inch steel pipe underneath US 1 Bypass required emergency repairs. As a precaution, State Highway Administration maintenance forces set up a 24-hour left lane closure on US 1 Bypass immediately north of the US 1 Bypass / MD 147 / US 1 Business intersection and the far-left turn lane from northbound MD 147 to US 1 Bypass.
The State’s contractor for the $962,000 pipe repair work is DXI Construction of Churchville.
