Partnership Project Starting During Earth Month will Bring Improvements

(April 16, 2025) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, in collaboration with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, is beginning work this month on a $1.2 million stream remediation project in the Colesville area of Montgomery County.

Work is expected to be complete by the end of this year, weather permitting, and involves remediating stream bank erosion and instability along approximately 950 feet of Paint Branch at Maydale Conservation Park near Good Hope Road.

The project will improve the floodplain, re-establish grade control structures, stabilize stream banks and plant native trees, shrubs and herbaceous vegetation. The project is part of MDOT’s environmental stewardship commitment and long-term improvements associated with the Intercounty Connector built by the Maryland Transportation Authority.

Work will require some temporary daytime lane closures along Good Hope Road. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic as needed. Contractor Meadville Land Service Inc., of Pa., will perform the work. Learn more about the project here.

The State Highway Administration appreciates customers’ patience as we work to improve Maryland’s transportation system. Motorists are asked to stay alert, stay focused and be aware of reduced speed limits and changing driving patterns. Slow down and move over in work zones. It’s the law. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for assistance.
