Motorists Should Expect Flagging, Lane Shifts and Shoulder Closures During Work Hours

(July 9, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is assisting a utility company with traffic control for overhead utility work to begin on July 10 in multiple locations in Garrett County. All work is expected to be complete by the end of October, weather permitting.

Drivers can expect intermittent lane closures 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Motorists are encouraged to allow extra commuting time during work hours.

The utility company will be working at the following locations:

  • US 219 (Quarry Road) near 9th Street;
  • MD 825 (Maryland Highway) near G Street; and
  • MD 135 (Oakland Drive) near 9th Street.

The work will be conducted by Shentel, Edinburg, VA. Crews will be hanging fiber on existing poles.  The contractors will use electronic message boards, signs, barrels and cones to alert motorists about the single-lane closures and work zones.
