Expect Overnight Ramp Closures and Detours June 2 – 6
(May 30, 2024) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is scheduled to close and detour two interchange ramps nightly at the I-70/I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) interchange and a ramp at the I-695/MD 122 (Security Boulevard) interchange in Baltimore County beginning Sunday, June 2. The work should be complete by 5 a.m. each morning, weather permitting.
- The ramp from eastbound I-70 to northbound I-695 (inner loop) will be closed Sunday, June 2 through Wednesday, June 5 for traffic barrier upgrade work. A posted detour will be in effect 10 p.m.- 5 a.m. Drivers will be guided to eastbound I-70 to the end at park and ride lot then proceed to westbound I-70 back to I-695.
- The ramp from westbound MD 122 to southbound I-695 (outer loop) will be closed Monday, June 3 and Tuesday, June 4 for installation of traffic control devices as part of the I-695 Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) project between I-70 and MD 43 (White Marsh Boulevard). A detour in effect 10 p.m.-5 a.m. The posted detour route is northbound I-695 (inner loop) to the MD 26 (Liberty Road) interchange, through interchange and proceed to southbound I-695 (outer loop).
- The ramp from westbound I-70 to southbound I-695 (outer loop) will be closed Thursday, June 6 for traffic barrier upgrade work. Drivers will be detoured 10 p.m.- 5 a.m. The posted detour route is northbound I-695 (inner loop) past the MD 122 interchange to the MD 26 (Liberty Road) interchange to southbound I-695 (outer loop) .
Contractors will use temporary traffic signs and barrels to guide drivers safely through the work zone and detour route. SHA advises drivers to plan ahead for extra travel time and to look ahead for the ramp closure and detour route signs.
In case of inclement weather, the ramp closures will take place on the next possible weeknight (Sunday through Thursday).
The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience but is necessary to maintain a safe and reliable highway system. Drivers are asked to slow down in the work zone for the safety of all drivers and the crews working to improve our roadways.
