Lane Closures Start This Month to Address Concrete Pavement Condition
(March 18, 2024) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is beginning a concrete pavement project along Interstate 97 in Anne Arundel County.
Starting tonight, crews will close two of three lanes - first along southbound I-97, then northbound I-97 - to outline and prepare the designated work areas by saw cutting predetermined locations
between the Severn Run Bridge and just south of MD 648 (Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard). This initial work will take place weeknights Sundays through Thursdays from 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
Later this spring, crews will remove deteriorated patches, pour new concrete, and allow it to cure before opening the lanes to traffic. This roadwork will require single and double lane closures along northbound and southbound I-97.
The State Highway Administration’s contractor, Romano Concrete Construction Inc. of Annapolis Junction, will use portable variable message signs, temporary traffic signs, cones, and barrels to safely guide drivers through the work zone. Drivers should plan for additional travel time while work is underway.
The State Highway Administration understands roadwork can be an inconvenience and asks all drivers to please stay alert and slow down in the work zone for their safety and for crews working to improve our roadways. Customers may call the District 5 Office at 410-841-1000 or toll-free at 1-800-331-5603 for additional information.
