Deck Puncture Repair Will Require
Triple-Lane Closures on I-95/I-495; Motorists Advised to Plan Ahead and Consider Alternate Nighttime Routes
(January 25, 2024) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin emergency bridge deck repairs on inner loop of
I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) over the AMTRAK train tracks, south of MD 450 (Annapolis Road) in Lanham. The deck repairs will be complete by late winter, weather permitting.
The bridge deck repairs will be done in two phases. In the first phase, crews will install scaffolding and planking to prepare for the repair. Beginning at 9 p.m. on Monday, January 29, a single-left lane closure will be in effect on the inner loop of I-95/I-495, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
For the second phase, crews will perform the deck patching with concrete repairs.
This phase will require a triple-lane closure on the inner loop of I-95/I-495, weekends, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Crews will close the first two lanes at 8 p.m. and take the third lane at 11 p.m. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each subsequent morning.
A steel plate is currently in place until the repair is completed.
The State Highway Administration’s contractor, The Marksmen Company, of Baltimore, will use construction barrels, cones, and arrow boards to safely guide drivers through the work zone. Customers who have questions may contact the District 3 Office at 301-513-7300 or toll-free at 1-800-749-0737.
Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
