Temporary Lane Closures August 13-18
August 10, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will continue weekend, weeknight and weekday ramp and lane closures within the I-95/I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) interchange in Arbutus from August 13-August 17. The work is weather permitting.
The ramp and lane closures are required as part of the State Highway Administration’s rehabilitation project for 10 bridges within the interchange. Learn more about the multi-bridge project

Beginning Sunday, August 13, motorists can expect the following:
Overnight Lane Closures:
- Southbound I-95 at I-695: Overnight single-lane closures at 7 p.m., followed by double left-lane closures 9 p.m.-5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
- Northbound I-95 at I-695: Overnight single-lane closures at 7 p.m., followed by double left-lane closures 9 p.m.-5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, August 13-17.
- Eastbound I-695 (outer loop) at I-95: Overnight single-lane closures 8 p.m.-5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, August 13-17.
- Westbound I-695 (inner loop) at I-95: Overnight single-lane closures 8 p.m.-5 a.m., followed by double left-lane closures 10 p.m.-5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, August 13-17
Overnight Ramp Closures:
- Ramp from northbound I-95 to westbound I-695 (inner loop): Closure and detour overnight, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. the next day, Sunday through Thursday, August 13-17. Detour: Exit onto Caton Avenue, go west on Caton Avenue, proceed to ramp to southbound I-95 and then take southbound I-95 to westbound I-695 (inner loop).
- Ramp from eastbound I-695 (outer loop) to northbound I-95: Closure and detour overnight, 8 p.m.-5 a.m. the next day on Sunday, August 13 and Monday, August 14. Detour: Exit onto Hollins Ferry Road, go through interchange to westbound I-695 (inner loop) and then take westbound I-695 to northbound I-95.
Daytime Lane Closures:
- Sulphur Spring Road under I-95: Lane shifts and/or lane closures with flagging operations to control two-way traffic between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, August 14-18.
Contractor Wagman Heavy Civil Inc. will perform the work and will use digital message boards, temporary signs, and barrels to safely guide drivers through the area.
The State Highway Administration understands temporary and ramp closures can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to maintain and improve the transportation system for all highway users. Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones.
