Drivers Can Expect Temporary Lane Closures June 18-23

(June 16, 2023) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will continue overnight lane closures along parts of I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) and on MD 122 (Security Boulevard) in western Baltimore County from Sunday, June 18, through Friday, June 23, weather permitting.

The lane closures are a required part of the ongoing work to relocate utilities, install new roadside infrastructure and relocate temporary and permanent traffic barriers. These tasks are part of the I-695 Transportation Systems Management and Operations project from I-70 to MD 43 (White Marsh Boulevard). Learn more about the project here

Beginning Sunday night, motorists can expect the following:

Overnight Lane Closures

  • Northbound and Southbound I-695 (inner and outer loops) from I-70 to MD 139 (Charles Street): Overnight double left or double right lane closures will occur for barrier wall removal or installation by the contractor team between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day, Sunday, June 18, through Thursday, June 22.
  • Ramp from westbound I-695 (outer loop) to southbound I-83 (JFX):  Single-lane closure on two-lane ramp between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day, Sunday, June 18, through Thursday, June 22.
  • MD 122 (Security Boulevard) under I-695 bridge: Overnight single-lane closures on eastbound and westbound Security Boulevard between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next morning Sunday, June 18, through Thursday, June 22.

Note: Concurrent with this project, BGE is nearing completion of its underground electric line reliability project 24/7 on eastbound MD 122 on the approach to the right-turn ramp to southbound I-695 (outer loop) in late June.

All work and lane closures are weather permitting. The State Highway Administration understands lane closures can be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary to maintain and improve the transportation system for all.

Drivers are asked to stay alert, stay focused, look for reduced speed limits as well as driving pattern changes, and slow down in construction zones. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
