Drivers Can Expect Daytime Single-Lane Closures for Each Project

(March 16, 2023) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is preparing to start two roadway improvement projects next week along the border of Frederick and Carroll counties – both requiring daytime lane closures.

In Frederick County, a project to improve the pavement on MD 27 (Ridge Road) between Gillis Falls Road and MD 26 (Liberty Road) near Mount Airy will start Monday, March 20. Beginning at 9 a.m., crews will close one lane of MD 27 to remove the old roadway pavement, repair roadway depressions and pave and stripe the road. A flagging operation will be used to maintain two-way traffic on MD 27 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

The project is expected to be complete this summer, weather permitting. After the last day of public schools in Carroll County on Thursday, June 15, crews will begin the daily work at 8 a.m. Crews also are permitted to work Sundays through Thursdays, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. State Highway Administration contractor C.J. Miller LLC, of Hampstead, will use cones, barrels and electronic signs to alert motorists and guide them through the work zone.

In Carroll County, work will take place next week to improve drainage on MD 31 (New Windsor Road) just west of Sams Creek Road near the Frederick County line. The project should be complete by March 24, weather permitting. Drivers can expect a daily single-lane closure guided by a flagging operation between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Contractor F.O. Day Co., of Frederick, will use cones, barrels and electronic signs to alert motorists and guide them through the work zone.

The State Highway Administration understands the closures will inconvenience some travelers and asks all motorists to please stay alert, reduce speed and be patient as you pass through the work zone.
