Ramp Closure Required During Two Weekends for New Concrete Pavement; Detour Will Guide Motorists Traveling Westbound I-70 to Cooks Lane - South
(September 8, 2022) –The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will temporarily close the westbound I-70 ramp to southbound Cooks Lane in Woodlawn during the next two weekends to allow the pouring and curing of a new concrete pavement. The ramp will be closed between 9 p.m. Friday, September 9, and 5 a.m. Monday, September 12, then again the following weekend between 9 p.m. Friday, September 16, and 5 a.m. Monday, September 18.
During the work, motorists traveling from westbound I-70 to Security Boulevard will be detoured to the Outer Loop of I-695 (southbound) to eastbound US 40 (Baltimore National Pike). From eastbound US 40, motorists will be guided to the Inner Loop of I-695 (northbound) back to eastbound Security Boulevard to Cooks Lane. Motorists on westbound I-70 from the park and ride lot to Cooks Lane - South should plan for extra travel time within the interchange area.
MDOT SHA contractor Concrete General Inc., of Gaithersburg, will use digital message boards, temporary traffic signs and cones to guide motorists through the detour route. In the event of inclement weather, the concrete work and detours will take place on the next possible weekend.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
