Motorists Asked to Use Caution, Anticipate Lane Closures During Work Hours
(July 11, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is beginning a $2.3 million resurfacing and safety improvement project this week on US 1 (Baltimore Avenue) between Rhode Island Avenue and MD 212A (Powder Mill Road) in Prince George’s County.
Beginning Wednesday, July 13, lane closures will be in effect in areas of the work zone during non-peak hours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. Crews will use barrels, cones, arrow boards and portable message signs to alert drivers of lane closures. The project includes:
- milling and paving;
- upgrading American with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalk ramps;
- installing new road signs and pavement markings; and
- upgrading pedestrian signals at US 1 and Southard Drive.
Work is expected to be complete in summer 2023, weather permitting. MDOT SHA contractor Francis O. Day Co. Inc., of Rockville, will perform the work. Additional project information can be found here. On average, approximately 35,000 vehicles travel on US 1 daily.
