I 70 sign
(June 2, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin a $3.3 million project on Friday, June 3, to improve pavement conditions and enhance safety on the westbound lanes of I-70 from I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) to the Patapsco River Bridge at the Howard County line. The project is expected to be complete by February.
Project improvements include:
- patching, milling and resurfacing along 3.4 miles of asphalt pavement to maintain and promote longevity of the surface;
- installing traffic management systems with traffic signs, pavement markings and in-pavement traffic detectors,
- constructing new traffic barrier end treatments; and
- cleaning and repairing highway drainage pipes.
Work will necessitate single- and double-lane closures and temporary traffic pattern shifts during daytime work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays, and also overnight from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday evenings through Friday mornings. Temporary traffic signs, reflective barrels and electronic arrow boards will alert and guide motorists through the work zone. MDOT SHA contractor P. Flanigan and Sons Inc., of Baltimore is performing the work.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
