Starting Sunday, Crews Will Change Traffic Pattern on US 40 Under I-695 and Begin Work on Bridge Piers and Abutments
(May 13, 2022) – On Sunday, May 15, the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin the next stage of its project rehabilitating the I-695 (Baltimore Beltway) bridge over US 40 (Baltimore National Pike) in the Catonsville area of Baltimore County.
On Sunday at 9 p.m., crews will begin working on the bridge’s piers and abutments. This set up work is expected to be complete by 5 a.m. Monday. From there, crews will continue to work at the location weekdays, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Travel lane and shoulder closures will be in effect on US 40, beneath I-695. Motorists can also expect a new traffic pattern in place through the expected completion in October, weather permitting. Concrete barriers, reflective barrels and cones, and temporary construction signs will guide motorists through the work zone.
Crews recently completed work on the I-695 bridge deck and will now switch to the piers and abutments that support the I-695 structure over US 40. MDOT SHA advises motorists to plan for extra travel time on US 40 within the I-695 interchange area. The Marksmen Company Inc., of Baltimore, is the MDOT SHA contractor for the job and is performing the bridge rehabilitation work. Learn more about the project
