Spring Weekend Work Comes with Temporary Left Lane Closures Through Mid-June

(May 10, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin weekend litter pickup and landscape work along the median of I-83 (Jones Falls Expressway) in Baltimore County starting Saturday, May 14.

From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, MDOT SHA maintenance crews will pick up litter, mow grass, and trim shrubs and trees as needed along the median of I-83 from the city/county line north of Northern Parkway to Ruxton Road.  Crews will continue to work these hours on Saturdays and Sundays until expected completion in mid-June, weather permitting.  Crews will not work on I-83 JFX during Preakness Stakes Weekend and Memorial Day Weekend.

During work hours, motorists can expect temporary left lane and shoulder closures on northbound and southbound I-83 JFX.  MDOT SHA crews will use signs, reflective barrels, and electronic arrow boards to alert and guide motorists through the work zone in Baltimore County.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers.  Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.

Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.

Editor’s Note

From intersection improvements to widening and new interchange construction, MDOT SHA is investing in projects to enhance the commute and daily travel for millions of Marylanders.  MDOT SHA maintains more than 2,500 bridges and 17,000 miles of non-toll state roads – the interstate, US and state numbered routes in Maryland’s 23 counties.
