(May 5, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will temporarily close and detour a section of Brookeville Road in Montgomery County beginning Wednesday, May 11, to allow crews to relocate a sewer line. The work is part of the nearly $44 million MD 97 relocation project, which will include a new two-lane highway with bicycle-compatible shoulders.

Starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday, MDOT SHA crews will work around the clock – except for Memorial Day weekend – along the road between MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) and Grayheaven Manor Road. The work is expected to be complete by late spring, weather permitting.

During the sewer relocation work, drivers are advised to add extra commute time and use MD 97 and MD 108 (Olney Laytonsville Road) as alternate routes. Drivers can expect reduced work zone speeds and changing traffic patterns during this work.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe driving and working conditions in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones. Motorists can dial #77 or 911 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
