Shift of Travel Lanes on Southbound MD 32 to Occur May 10-11 in Northern Work Zone; Continuing Work Requires Single-Lane Closure
(May 5, 2022) - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will shift traffic on a one-mile section of southbound MD 32 (Patuxent Freeway) onto newly constructed travel lanes May 10-11. The date was changed because of rain.
The work is part of the $127 million MD 32 Phase II widening project that began in 2019 and is expected to be complete in 2022. The project is constructing an additional travel lane in both directions of MD 32 between Linden Church Road and the I-70 ramps.
On Tuesday at 9 a.m., crews will close one travel lane on southbound MD 32 between I-70 and MD 144. Motorists will be guided through the work zone by a flagging operation. The work and lane closure will continue all day and overnight, including the evening commute, and will reopen by 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 11.
Two-way travel on MD 32 will be maintained throughout the operation. The traffic shift will enable crews to access and work on stormwater pipes and structures along southbound MD 32 in the northern work zone. Learn more about the project by clicking here.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones.
Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
