Project Includes a New Driving Surface on Two-Lane Bridge
(May 3, 2022) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has begun a $4.7 million project to rehabilitate the MD 94 (Woodbine Road) bridge over I-70 in Lisbon, Howard County. Work includes removing and replacing the two-lane Woodbine Road bridge deck and repairing bridge piers and abutments one side at a time.
“This project is another example of our commitment to invest in infrastructure to keep our system in a state of good repair,” said MDOT SHA Administrator Tim Smith. “Originally built in 1971, this bridge is nearing the end of its service life. Its replacement will help ensure a safe, smooth ride for years to come.”
During the work, MDOT SHA will install three temporary traffic signals to maintain traffic on the bridge throughout construction. One signal will be operational at each end of the bridge to alternate traffic in each direction using a single travel lane. A third signal will be placed at the end of the westbound I-70 exit ramp at MD 94. The three temporary signals will be removed after construction is complete, expected in spring 2023.
Drivers are urged to use caution and obey the new traffic signals. Traffic on I-70 will be maintained during construction. Learn more by clicking

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, look for reduced speed limits and other driving pattern changes. Please drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
